Full Name: Sr. Mary Margarita Simon (a.k.a. the Popcorn Nun)

Feast Day:  The Feast Day of Margaret Mary, October 16th

What brought you into the convent? I went to a Catholic grade school and it was there that I received my foundation. I was impressed with the priests, who were poor in spirit. I then attended *Notre Dame and the Servants of Mary for High School.

Favorite Color: Pink

Favorite Food: Popcorn      At St. Geraldıs everyone calls me the Popcorn Nun because I always make popcorn and invite them to share with me.

Favorite Church Song: Community of God

Describe your vision of God: God is very kind, loving, forgiving, always there for youŠ and so many other things.

Q. Favorite Thing About Marian

A. ³The wonderful spirit of the alumni and the friendships that the girls seem to build up.  I am very impressed by the academics, especially at this blue-ribbon school.²

Q. When did you enter the Convent?

            A. September 26th ­ 70 Years as a Servant of Mary

                25 years in Denver

                23 years at S.C. Heelan

                14 years at Marian

Q. How long have you worked at Marian? What do you do here?

            A. 14 years total

                1956-1960 - Assistant Principal & Taught English, Religion, and French

1994-Now - Library Substitute, Sometimes substitutes but rarely for      other teachers

Q. How have the girls changed?

A. ³The girls havenıt really changed over the years.  They are still very

    respectful and I am very impressed by their study habits.²

Q. What are some of your favorite hobbies?

            A. Crocheting and knitting

                Playing cards

    ³I love to read.  Right now, my book club is reading Sense and

    Sensibility by Jane Austen.

Q. Who is/was your inspiration for what and where you are today?

            A. ³All the Servants of Mary who taught me through school.  Especially,

               Sister Mary Paula, who taught me all 4 years of high school.²

Q. When is your Birthday?

            A. She turns 90 in July.

Why did you become a nun? : ³It is a personal thing, but I really did get a call from God. Iıve only told one person the call I received. My mother was a big influence on my decision also.²

Favorite Church Song: How Great Thou Art

Big influence in her life: her mother and Mary

What do you think God looks like? : ³Iıve never thought about what he looks like, but more so what he is like.  Quiet, loving, kind, forgiving . . .²

Favorite Food: any kind of fruit

Favorite color: Blue

Favorite Book:  enjoys pioneer stories or a good love story

Hobbies: Crocheting, sewing, cross-stitch, embroidery, reading, cooking, gardening, listening to classical music

What do you do at Marian? : Works with people who have lost a loved one, or are suffering for a serious illness

Why she became a nun: When she was about 4-5 years old she was influenced by an exposition at church-also feels like she had a calling and answered after high school-her mom and dad supported her decision

~still very happy with her decision

Favorite Food: Irish stew and Mexican food from-

Favorite color : blue and green

Favorite church song: All I ask of you (is forever to remember me as loving you)

Hobbies: card playing, ice-skating
